GILGIT: Sirbaz Khan has etched his name in history as the first Pakistani climber to summit all 14 of the world’s peaks exceeding 8,000 meters, achieving this remarkable feat at Shishapangma peak (8,027m) in Tibet.
In the mountaineering community, summiting all 14 “eight-thousanders” is regarded as the ultimate achievement, with only a select few climbers accomplishing this milestone.
According to a statement from Imagine Nepal, Mr. Khan’s summit organizer, 11 climbers reached the peak at 4:06 PM local time on Thursday. Among the five group members who completed the feat, Mr. Khan and Mingma G ascended all 14 peaks, with Mingma G doing so without supplemental oxygen.
Prominent Pakistani alpinist Naila Kiani celebrated Mr. Khan’s achievement on Facebook, declaring, “History has been made.”
Karrar Haidri, Secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, praised Mr. Khan for “breaking boundaries” with his latest summit, stating that the mountaineer’s journey exemplifies “the power of perseverance and meticulous preparation, cementing his place in mountaineering history.”
Hailing from the village of Aliabad in Hunza, Mr. Khan began his alpine career as a porter and kitchen boy 11 years ago. He is also the first Pakistani climber to summit 11 of the 14 peaks without supplemental oxygen and has ascended Mount Everest twice.
