PDMA issues new rain alert; official confirms departments are prepared to respond.

ISLAMABAD: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director-General Irfan Ali Kathia reassured on Sunday that all relevant departments in Punjab are on high alert, following the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, as PDMA issued a fresh rain alert.

Speaking on a private news channel, Kathia stated that authorities are fully prepared to handle any emergency, with rain predicted until October 8.

“Our control rooms are operating around the clock, and rescue teams with necessary machinery are on standby,” he said.

Kathia also confirmed that water levels in all rivers and canals are normal, and steps have been taken to drain water in low-lying areas.

He urged citizens to stay away from hanging power lines and mud houses during the rain, and in case of emergencies, to contact Help Line 1129. Measures have been put in place for water drainage in flood-prone areas of the province.
