Punjab University Reschedules Exams Due to Upcoming SCO Summit
LAHORE: Punjab University has announced the rescheduling of exams due to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, as reported by ARY News on Friday.
According to a university spokesperson, the exams initially scheduled for October 14, 15, and 16 have been cancelled due to the summit. These exams will now be held on October 17, 18, and 19. However, the spokesperson clarified that exams in other cities of Punjab, except for Islamabad and Rawalpindi, will proceed according to the original schedule.
The rescheduling follows the Punjab government’s imposition of Section 144 in Rawalpindi for eight days, aimed at ensuring security during the SCO summit. A notification issued by the Punjab Home Department details that all political gatherings, rallies, protests, sit-ins, and similar activities will be prohibited in Rawalpindi during this period.
In addition to this, the ban extends to pillion riding and aerial firing, while pigeon flying, the use of drones, and laser lights have also been restricted within the city limits. These restrictions will remain in place until October 17 to maintain law and order during the event.
This move was prompted by a request from the district administration to safeguard public safety and ensure the smooth conduct of the summit. Law enforcement personnel, however, are exempt from these restrictions.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit is set to take place in Islamabad on October 15 and 16. To facilitate its smooth organization, the government has also announced a three-day public holiday in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
