India vs Bangladesh: India racks up 232 runs through boundaries

India’s total of 297 for 6 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad is now the second-highest in all men’s T20Is. The highest total remains Nepal’s 314 for 3 against Mongolia during the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year. India’s previous highest score was 260 for 5 against Sri Lanka in 2017.

India scored an impressive 232 runs through boundaries in Hyderabad, setting a new record for the most runs by any team in a men’s T20 match. The previous record was 216 by Punjab against Andhra last year, while the highest in a T20I was 212 by Nepal against Mongolia.

India smashed 47 boundaries—25 fours and 22 sixes—against Bangladesh, the most by any team in a men’s T20 match. The previous record of 43 boundaries was held by the Czech Republic against Turkey in 2019 and Punjab against Andhra in 2023.

Out of the 20 overs in India’s innings, 18 overs yielded 10 or more runs, the most for a men’s T20I innings where ball-by-ball data is available. Only the first and ninth overs, bowled by Mahedi Hasan, saw fewer runs, with seven and nine runs, respectively.

Sanju Samson became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in a men’s T20I, with his 111 surpassing Ishan Kishan’s previous best of 89 against Sri Lanka in 2022. Samson’s century came off just 40 balls, making it the second-fastest for India in men’s T20Is, behind Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball hundred against Sri Lanka in 2017.

India’s 152 for 1 in the first ten overs was the second-highest ten-over total in men’s T20Is. The only higher totals are Australia’s 156 for 3 against Scotland and Estonia’s 154 for 4 against Cyprus, both achieved earlier this year. India’s previous best ten-over total was 117 for 0 against Sri Lanka in 2017.

India’s 152 for 2 during the middle overs (7-16) was the second-highest total for that phase in a men’s T20I, with the highest being 163 for 1 by Nepal against Mongolia in 2023.

India took just 13.6 overs to reach 200 runs, the second-fastest any team has done so in men’s T20Is. The fastest is South Africa’s 200 off 13.5 overs against West Indies last year.

India also set a record for their fastest team 100 in men’s T20Is, reaching the milestone in just 7.1 overs. Their previous fastest was in 7.6 overs against West Indies in 2019.

The 82 for 1 India scored during the powerplay is tied for the highest powerplay total in the format, matching their 82 for 2 against Scotland in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

India hit 22 sixes against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, their highest ever in a men’s T20I, surpassing the 21 sixes hit against Sri Lanka in 2017. The 22 sixes also rank as the joint-third most by any team in a men’s T20I.

India now holds the record for the most 200-plus totals in T20Is, with 37 such totals. This also sets a new record in men’s T20 matches, surpassing Somerset’s 36.

The partnership between Samson and Suryakumar Yadav had a run rate of 15.04, the second-highest for a stand of 150-plus runs in men’s T20Is. The highest remains 17.81 by Kushal Malla and Rohit Paudel for Nepal against Mongolia.

Sanju Samson hit five sixes in the tenth over bowled by Rishad Hossain, becoming the second Indian batter after Yuvraj Singh to hit five or more sixes in an over. Yuvraj famously hit six sixes off Stuart Broad during the 2007 T20 World Cup.

India’s 133-run victory in Hyderabad is their third-largest win by runs in men’s T20Is and the biggest win by any team against Bangladesh. This was India’s sixth instance of winning by a margin of over 100 runs. Only Japan (8), Canada (7), and Malaysia (6) have achieved more such wins in men’s T20Is.
