WhatsApp is set to roll out new video playback features for its users.

WhatsApp is gearing up to enhance users’ video playback experience with some exciting new controls in its latest update, providing greater flexibility and convenience.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest update for WhatsApp on iOS (version 24.20.78) introduces a feature that allows users to adjust video playback speed, offering options for normal, fast (1.5x), and even faster (2.0x) speeds. This enhancement enables users to tailor their viewing experience according to their preferences and time constraints, making it easier to consume content efficiently.

The speed control option is conveniently located next to the progress bar for easy access.

Additionally, the official changelog for the update, now available for download from the App Store, highlights the widespread rollout of a picture-in-picture feature for videos. This new feature allows users to resize the video window and move it around the screen using a button positioned next to the playback bar.

With picture-in-picture mode, users can continue chatting, sending messages, or browsing through other chats and apps while the video plays in a small window in the corner of the screen. The picture-in-picture window also includes essential playback controls, such as the ability to skip forward, rewind, and pause the video.

Notably, this feature is expected to support iOS 14 and later versions, as the required Application Programming Interface (API) has been accessible to developers since iOS 14.

If users do not see these features immediately, it’s worth noting that they may be rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, as indicated in the official changelog. Users are encouraged to regularly update WhatsApp through the App Store and the TestFlight app to access these features when they become available.
