The government has announced a Rs5 per litre increase in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD), citing fluctuations in international markets. However, petrol prices will remain unchanged at Rs247.03 per litre for the next two weeks, starting from midnight tonight.
According to a notification issued on Tuesday night by the Finance Division, the price of HSD will rise from Rs246.29 to Rs251.29 per litre.
No adjustments were made to the prices of light diesel oil or kerosene.
This price revision is part of the routine review process based on global market trends.
Earlier reports suggested that after five consecutive price cuts, petroleum prices were likely to increase due to rising international rates driven by the ongoing Middle East crisis.
In the past two weeks, petrol prices in global markets have increased by around $2.80 per barrel, while HSD prices have surged by approximately $7 per barrel. The average global price of petrol has risen to nearly $79 per barrel, up from around $76, and HSD prices have jumped from about $80.50 per barrel to around $87.50 during this period.
The final price adjustments take into account the exchange rate and current tax policies.
