The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a nationwide protest scheduled for Friday (tomorrow) in response to the government’s plans to introduce the 26th amendment to the constitution.
This decision was made during a PTI political committee meeting in Islamabad, where party leaders expressed strong opposition to the proposed constitutional changes.
In a statement issued after the meeting, PTI declared that it does not accept the government’s plan to amend the constitution. The party has called for protests across the country following Friday prayers, urging members and supporters to take to the streets.
During the meeting, PTI also outlined its strategy for the upcoming National Assembly session, deciding that only central leaders would participate while other members would abstain. Opposition leader Omar Ayub stated he would attend a special parliamentary party meeting only after consulting Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the proposed amendments.
Additionally, the PTI’s political committee condemned the treatment of the party’s founder, Imran Khan, who remains imprisoned in Adiala Jail. The party voiced strong disapproval of the conditions faced by Khan and called for immediate access for his lawyers, family members, and party officials.
Previously, the PTI had planned a protest for October 15 at Islamabad’s D-Chowk but postponed it due to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit taking place in the city.
During the political committee meeting, the decision to protest was taken based on the majority opinion of its members. Sources revealed that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan discussed the government’s offer with the committee.
