Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed optimism that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would support the constitutional amendment.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari early Sunday, Rehman stated, “Today, we expect a response from the PTI.”
He added, “I received a positive message from the founder of PTI, for which I am grateful.”
Rehman noted, “We will be able to cast our votes during the parliamentary sessions. We are awaiting developments on this matter today.”
“There are no significant controversies regarding the draft,” he mentioned.
Both the PPP and JUI-F have reached an agreement on the constitutional amendment, with the government agreeing to address the areas of initial concern raised by them.
Fazl seeks one day
Meanwhile, Bhutto-Zardari expressed his wish for Fazlur Rehman to personally present the bill, stating, “I hope Maulana Fazlur Rehman can persuade the PTI on this issue.”
“Hopefully, Maulana Fazlur Rehman will agree to my request,” he added.
Earlier on Saturday, reports indicated that Rehman had requested one day to present the constitutional amendment.
According to details, Rehman’s residence has become a political hub as members of both the government and opposition gather to discuss the 26th constitutional amendment.
With unanimous approval anticipated, law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar delivered the final draft of the amendment directly to Fazlur Rehman.
The atmosphere at the JUI-F chief’s residence has been lively, with various political leaders making visits throughout the day.
