US Election: 13 Days Remaining — Current Polls, Plus Updates on Harris and Trump

Voters in Hawaii, Missouri, Utah, and Wisconsin began casting their ballots on Tuesday, joining several other states that initiated early voting in recent weeks.

Polls indicate a tight race between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican contender Donald Trump, both nationwide and in key battleground states.

Key Updates

  1. Early voting is in full swing across the U.S. Harris and Trump are tied in polls.
  2. Trump is reportedly leading Harris among Arab American voters, according to a poll.
  3. The Central Park Five are suing Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, Harris participated in interviews with NBC News and Telemundo, while Trump held a rally in North Carolina following a roundtable discussion with Latino leaders.

Latest Polling Insights

Recent polling data shows a closely contested race between the candidates. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday indicated that Harris holds a slight lead over Trump, with 46% to 43%. This mirrors her advantage from a six-day poll that concluded on Monday, where she had a 45% to 42% edge over Trump.

Despite these numbers, the new poll reflects a general dissatisfaction among voters regarding the economy and immigration, areas where Trump appears to resonate more with the electorate. Approximately 60% of respondents believe the economy is headed in the wrong direction.

According to FiveThirtyEight’s daily election poll tracker, as of October 22, Harris is leading in the national polls with a 1.9 percentage-point advantage over Trump.

While national surveys are informative about voter sentiment, the Electoral College’s state-by-state results ultimately determine the election’s outcome. Seven battleground states—Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada—are expected to play crucial roles. In these states, the polling margin between Harris and Trump is narrow, indicating a virtual tie. Trump is slightly ahead in the averages for Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, and Arizona, while Harris holds a slim lead in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada.

If these narrow differences persist, Trump may secure the presidency. However, if polls underrepresent Harris’s support in any battleground states where Trump is leading, she could emerge victorious.

Kamala Harris’s Activities on Tuesday

During her NBC interview in Washington, DC, Harris asserted that her team is ready to challenge any early victory claims made by Trump, emphasizing her primary goal of defeating him. She stated, “We have the resources and expertise” to counter any attempts by Trump to undermine the election process.

Harris highlighted Trump’s past actions, saying, “This is a person, Donald Trump, who tried to undo a free and fair election… This is a very serious matter.”

In her Telemundo interview, set to air on Wednesday at 23:00 GMT, she discussed her commitment to fostering an economy that “supports the working class” and finding solutions to bring more capital to communities.

Her running mate, Tim Walz, criticized Trump in a speech in Madison, Wisconsin, ahead of former President Barack Obama’s appearance, claiming that Trump lacks stamina and coherence in his speeches.

Earlier, Trump had criticized Harris for not making any campaign appearances that day. In his speech, Obama mentioned that he had already voted in Chicago, encouraging the crowd to go vote if they hadn’t yet.

Donald Trump’s Activities

Trump hosted a roundtable with Latino leaders in Florida, where prominent Florida Republicans praised his support for the Hispanic community during his presidency.

Reporting from Miami, Al Jazeera’s John Holman noted that Harris enjoys significant support among Latino voters, while Trump is seeking crucial endorsements within the community, particularly in key states. According to Voto Latino, Harris has 63% support among Latino voters, while Trump has only 31%.

In his remarks, Trump criticized Harris, saying, “She’s sleeping right now … This is not what you want.” His comments followed Harris’s attempts to depict him as “exhausted” due to his withdrawal from several interviews.

He also condemned the Biden administration over the leak of classified documents reportedly revealing Israel’s plans for an attack on Iran, calling it a “bad thing.”

Towards the end of the day, Trump held a rally in North Carolina, where he attacked the state’s economy and Harris.

Upcoming Campaign Events for Harris and Trump

Harris is scheduled to participate in a CNN town hall on Wednesday outside Philadelphia with undecided voters. Walz will return to Philadelphia on Friday for his first visit since being announced as Harris’s running mate.

On Thursday, iconic musician Bruce Springsteen is expected to join Harris and Obama at a rally in Atlanta, Georgia.

Trump is also set to campaign in Georgia, where he currently leads Harris by 1.5 percentage points according to FiveThirtyEight’s daily election poll tracker. Both campaigns are focusing on securing Georgia, which narrowly went to Joe Biden in 2020, contributing to his election victory. Trump won the state in 2016.

Additionally, popular podcaster Joe Rogan will interview Trump on Friday, marking an interesting moment given their complicated history. In the past, Trump criticized Rogan after he expressed support for Robert Kennedy Jr. in the election.

As Trump quipped, “It will be interesting to see how loudly Joe Rogan gets BOOED the next time he enters the UFC Ring??? MAGA2024.”
