Liam Payne, former One Direction member, initially had no intention of joining the famous boy band. According to JB Gill from the group JLS, Payne’s original aspiration was to be part of JLS. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Gill recalled meeting Payne during the 2008 X Factor auditions, where Payne was competing as a solo artist but was eliminated during boot camp. Gill encouraged him, saying, “Just keep going, keep working hard, you’ll get your chance.”
Payne returned to X Factor in 2010, where he was placed in a group with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, forming One Direction. The band went on to achieve international success, becoming one of the most popular boy bands in history. Gill hopes Payne’s story serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance, noting, “He was able to do what he set out to do—share his voice with the world.”
