Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar Has Been Dismissed from His Position

Hazim Bangwar, known for his distinctive style, has been removed from his position as Assistant Commissioner in Karachi.

An official notification has confirmed his dismissal, instructing him to report to the Services and General Administration Department for further instructions, as reported by a local news channel.

Bangwar, who holds a degree in fashion design, gained recognition for his unique approach to the role. He has previously worked in modeling, poetry, and fiction writing, enhancing his public appeal.

His mother is of Iraqi descent, and his father, Akbar Ali Bangwar, was a former police officer who held the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.

Last year, Hazim Bangwar became an internet sensation upon his appointment as Assistant Commissioner for Karachi’s North Nazimabad.

After announcing his new role on social media, some individuals delved into Bangwar’s personal life, sharing various pictures on a micro-blogging site.

Sana Tariq Syed, the Assistant Commissioner of Liaquatabad, confirmed the news on her Instagram, praising Bangwar as a talented musician and competent officer. She expressed pride in having him on their team.

Bangwar also shared news of his acceptance into Harvard, clarifying in a tweet that his enrollment would not require him to leave his job or Pakistan. “First of all, thank you for all the love and well wishes,” he wrote. “I just want to clarify that I’m not leaving Pakistan nor my job. I will continue to serve the public while attending my classes online.”

Despite his popularity, Bangwar faced criticism for his fashion sense and demeanor, with some accusing him of “imitating women” or labeling him as “transgender.” In response, he stated, “About those calling me a transgender… I am not a transgender, I am male. However, these speculations are offensive, not just to me but to mothers, sisters, working women, and female officers.”

He further criticized the stereotypes being perpetuated, stating, “They’re reinforcing the notion that being a woman is bad. What are you promoting? That being a woman or part of the third gender is negative? That is completely unfair and offensive.”

According to his website, Hazim completed his degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from AIU, London, and later pursued an LLB from a university in London. A music and fashion enthusiast, he has collaborated with artists like Jessie J, Future, Ciara, and Nicki Minaj.

Alleged Reason for Dismissal

The reasons behind Bangwar’s dismissal have come to light. Sources indicate that he was removed after issuing notices to three government officials, instructing them to vacate their official residences as per directives from the Sindh High Court and the Commissioner.

Bangwar notified Deputy Secretaries Zahid Jamaica and Fatima Ahmed, who reside in the Karachi Commissioner’s compound, which is designated for its officers.

Sources revealed that, following instructions from the Karachi Commissioner, directives were issued to the South District Deputy Commissioner to ensure compliance with the court order.

A notification has been issued for Bangwar’s removal from the Assistant Commissioner position, with instructions for the Services and General Administration Department (SGAD) to handle the matter accordingly.
