The United States has imposed sanctions on nineteen Indian companies, accusing them of providing support to Russia’s war efforts by enhancing its military capabilities.
These companies, including Uber Technologies and Services Pvt Ltd, Denvas Services Pvt Ltd, and Galaxy Bearings Ltd, are alleged to have supplied Russia with tools and technologies critical to its ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Separately, Canada has accused Indian Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah, a close ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, of orchestrating plots to target Sikh separatists on Canadian soil. Canada’s earlier accusations were dismissed by the Indian government as unfounded.
The Washington Post initially reported on Canada’s claims, with Canadian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison confirming to a parliamentary panel that he identified Shah as the figure behind the alleged campaign. The High Commission of India in Ottawa and India’s foreign ministry have not commented.
India has labeled Sikh separatists as “terrorists” and a security threat due to their demand for an independent Khalistan, a movement that sparked an insurgency in the 1980s and 1990s, resulting in significant loss of life.
