CJP Yahya Afridi presides over the inaugural session of the Judicial Commission.

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) convened today, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, as reported by ARY News on Tuesday.

Attendees included Senior Puisne Judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Aminuddin Khan, and other Supreme Court judges.

The meeting also featured Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Pakistan Bar Council representative Advocate Akhtar Hussain, People’s Party’s Farooq H. Naik, PML-N’s Shaikh Aftab Ahmed, and Roshan Khurshid Barrucha.

The agenda covered key topics such as the establishment of Constitutional Benches and the formation of the Judicial Commission’s Secretariat.

Chief Justice Yahya Afridi had called for this inaugural meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan on November 5 (today).

Previously, the Supreme Court’s full court had committed to expediting the resolution of approximately 60,000 pending cases.

According to a press statement, “The meeting aimed to evaluate the Supreme Court’s performance in managing the institution and addressing case disposals, with a focus on strategies to reduce the backlog and improve judicial efficiency. The Registrar provided a summary of the current caseload and discussed initiatives for timely case resolution.”
