Lollywood actress Mahira Khan was recently awarded an achievement award by the UK Parliament in recognition of her significant contributions to cinema and her role as a cultural ambassador.
The award ceremony, organized by MP Afzal Khan at the House of Commons, was attended by notable figures, including Dr. Sarah Naeem, wife of the High Commissioner, and members of the Labour Asians Society.
Afzal Khan lauded Mahira for her exceptional talent and intellect, describing her as a role model for women. “She has chosen and portrayed meaningful, real-life stories that resonate with audiences worldwide,” he said, emphasizing her deserving status as a cultural icon.
Dr. Sarah Naeem also praised Mahira’s influence on women’s empowerment. “Her impact has inspired women not only in Pakistan but across the globe to chase their dreams with courage and determination,” she remarked. Dr. Naeem further acknowledged Mahira as the first Pakistani actress to receive such an honor in the UK Parliament, calling it a testament to the global recognition of her advocacy for social causes and challenging societal norms.
In her acceptance speech, Mahira expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “My parents, my brother, my son, my colleagues, childhood friends, and family have been my unwavering support.” She credited her upbringing and support system for her success, adding, “I owe everything to the teachers, directors, fans, and mentors who helped make this possible.”
