Federal government increases salaries and allowances for Supreme Court judges

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has raised the salaries and allowances for Supreme Court (SC) judges, according to ARY News.

Details reveal that the house rent allowance has been increased from Rs. 68,000 to Rs. 350,000, while the judicial allowance has been boosted from Rs. 3.42 million to Rs. 10.9 million.

This decision was made after receiving approval from Acting President Yousuf Raza Gilani, followed by a notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice.

This move comes after a salary increase for the Chief Justice of Pakistan last July, which raised his pay by over Rs. 200,000, bringing it to over Rs. 1.2 million. Additionally, a 20 percent salary hike for Supreme Court judges was approved via an ordinance by then-President Sadiq Sanjrani. Under this ordinance, the salaries of other judges were also raised by 20 percent, reaching over Rs. 1.1 million.

In other developments, the National Assembly (NA) recently passed an amendment to the Budget 2024-25, increasing the salaries and travel allowances for lawmakers, despite opposition protests. The amendment, introduced by PPP leader Abdul Qadir Patel, was approved by a majority vote. It was enacted through the Finance Bill 2024-25.

The documents indicate that the travel allowance for lawmakers has been raised from Rs. 10 to Rs. 25 per kilometer. Unused annual airline tickets will now be carried over to the next year, and the number of annual travel vouchers has increased from 25 to 30.
