PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, has resolved to file a first information report (FIR) against Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) for allegedly “raiding” KP House in Islamabad during last month’s PTI-led D-Chowk protest.
In a session chaired by CM Gandapur, the provincial cabinet decided to charge Islamabad IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and around 600 police personnel with “terrorism, vandalism, and theft” in connection to the alleged raid. The cabinet reviewed a report estimating damages at KP House exceeding Rs10 million, including the loss of valuable items belonging to the KP chief minister and provincial lawmakers.
Faisal Amin Gandapur, the KP chief minister’s brother and a Member of the National Assembly (MNA), informed Geo News of their approach to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to ensure an FIR against the Islamabad police chief. He noted that the FIR would be grounded in consultations with the KP law secretary and legal advisors, emphasizing that the case would be pursued rigorously.
KP Minister for Public Health Engineering Pakhtoon Yar Khan and Adviser to the Chief Minister on Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif confirmed the move, citing legal action against those responsible for the KP House “raid.” Provincial Minister Saif indicated the charges would include “vandalism, terrorism, and theft” against federal officials.
KP Advocate General Shah Faisal Uthmankhel outlined that under Article 179, an FIR would be lodged within the jurisdiction where the incident occurred, though, in certain cases, actions have been pursued outside these limits.
The KP Chief Minister accused Islamabad police of breaching the sanctity of KP House during the protest, claiming he witnessed physical altercations involving KP police and staff. Gandapur also demanded the immediate removal of the Islamabad IGP, describing the incident as an insult to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which he stated is a vital part of Pakistan’s federation.
