Pakistan secured a remarkable 9-wicket victory against Australia in the second ODI of their three-match series at the Adelaide Oval, leveling the series 1-1. The series decider will take place in Perth on Sunday.
The Men in Green delivered an exceptional performance, with fiery pacer Haris Rauf taking a 5-wicket haul, while solid half-centuries from openers Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub guided them comfortably to the target.
This dominant win not only equalized the series but also propelled Pakistan past South Africa in the ICC ODI team rankings, moving them up to third place. This rise is particularly surprising given Pakistan’s recent struggles in the format.
Following a disappointing Asia Cup campaign last year, where they were eliminated in the Super 4 stage, and an early exit in the 2023 ODI World Cup’s group stage, Pakistan has only played two ODI matches since then—both in the ongoing series against Australia.
Despite their recent challenges, Pakistan made a strong comeback in Adelaide, comfortably beating a formidable Australian side.
Pakistan now aims to clinch the third ODI to win the series and further solidify their third-place ranking. They will also face Zimbabwe and South Africa in upcoming ODI series, followed by a tri-series with South Africa and New Zealand early next year to prepare for the defense of their Champions Trophy title.
