Punjab Government Reports 54 FIRs Filed Against PTI Founder in High Court

LAHORE: The Punjab government has informed the Lahore High Court about FIRs registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan across various districts in the province, according to ARY News.

Punjab government lawyer Farrukh Lodhi presented a report detailing 54 FIRs filed against the former prime minister. The cases are distributed as follows: 21 in Lahore, 19 in Rawalpindi, seven in Sheikhupura, five in Faisalabad, and one in Gujranwala.

On November 8, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore granted bail to Imran Khan in four cases related to the May 9 protests. ATC judge Arshad Javed approved the bail pleas after hearing arguments from both sides, with Prosecutor General Punjab Farhad Ali alleging that Khan had instructed his supporters to target state buildings if he was detained.

May 9 Unrest

Protests erupted across Pakistan following Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9, 2023, with demonstrations intensifying in both rural and urban areas. Authorities in Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad called in the military to restore order. PTI supporters reportedly attacked several army installations, including the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore. Imran Khan remains the main accused in all cases related to the May 9 incidents.
