ISLAMABAD: A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Islamabad and several cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday, according to ARY News.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) confirmed that tremors were felt in Islamabad, Swat, Malakand, Charsadda, Mansehra, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Chitral, Upper Dir, Khyber, Landi Kotal, Jamrod, Tirah, Buner, and other areas in KP.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan, with a depth of 220 kilometers.
Following the tremors, residents of affected areas rushed outside in fear, reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba. Fortunately, no casualties or damage to property have been reported.
Earlier, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake had jolted Swat and nearby regions, with a depth of 89 kilometers. Its epicenter was also in the Hindu Kush Mountain range. Tremors caused brief panic among locals, but no immediate reports of damage or injuries were received.
On September 11, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake was felt across parts of Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. The earthquake, recorded at 12:29 PM PKT, had a depth of 10 km and its epicenter was near DG Khan, according to a statement from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
