Afridi reclaims top spot as No. 1 ODI bowler; Hasaranga moves to second in T20I rankings

Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi has reclaimed the top spot as the No. 1 ODI bowler in the latest ICC rankings, marking a double achievement for Pakistan alongside Babar Azam, who further solidified his position as the leading ODI batter. Afridi’s impressive eight-wicket haul at an average of 12.62 in three matches against Australia propelled him past Kuldeep Yadav, Rashid Khan, and Keshav Maharaj. Rashid now holds the second position, Maharaj has moved down to third, and Kuldeep to fourth. This is Afridi’s second time reaching the No. 1 spot in ODIs, having briefly held it during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Haris Rauf, Afridi’s bowling partner, jumped 14 places to 13th after claiming 10 wickets against Australia, earning him the Player of the Series title. Naseem Shah also advanced, moving up 14 spots to a career-high 55th.

Babar Azam’s scores of 37, 15, and 28 in recent games have strengthened his lead among ODI batters, with Indian players Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli holding steady in second, third, and fourth places respectively.

Meanwhile, in the ODI allrounder rankings, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi stayed on top after his series-winning performances against Bangladesh in the UAE. Rashid moved up to third, and Azmatullah Omarzai climbed to ninth, bringing three Afghan players into the top 10. Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz also rose four places to No. 4.

In T20Is, Wanindu Hasaranga’s stellar 6-for-37 series haul against New Zealand, including a 4-for-17 in the second game despite an injury, lifted him to second place among bowlers, with only England’s Adil Rashid ahead. Akeal Hosein’s economical showing against England raised him to third, and Ravi Bishnoi moved to seventh after his four wickets in two matches against South Africa.

Among T20I batters, England’s Phil Salt and Jos Buttler climbed to second and sixth, while West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran entered the top 10. In the South Africa vs India series, Sanju Samson’s second consecutive T20I century—a 50-ball 107—propelled him 27 spots to 39th. South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks and Tristan Stubbs also improved their standings, now in 12th and 26th, while Australia’s Travis Head remains No. 1, with Salt and Suryakumar Yadav completing the top three.
