Elon Musk held a meeting with Iran’s UN ambassador, according to NYT reports.

According to two Iranian officials, a secret meeting took place between Elon Musk and Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani, where they discussed de-escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. The meeting, which lasted over an hour, was described as “positive” and “good news” by the Iranian officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Musk, who did not respond to requests for comment, reportedly initiated the meeting, and the location was chosen by the ambassador. This meeting may signal a shift in tone between Tehran and Washington, despite the historical animosity between the two nations.

The Iranian officials also indicated that the meeting was a way for Iran to avoid direct talks with American officials, with Musk potentially playing a mediating role. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, recently stated that “differences can be resolved through cooperation and dialogue,” while emphasizing that Iran has always remained open to discussions on its peaceful nuclear program.

The meeting’s implications are still being discussed, but analysts suggest that Iran may be keen to explore diplomatic solutions, even under the new U.S. administration, with the door to negotiations remaining open despite the challenges.
