Diljit Dosanjh Criticizes Bollywood Stars and Challenges Government Over Alcohol Promotion After Telangana Show Restrictions
Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh fired back at Bollywood celebrities promoting alcohol after the Telangana government restricted him from performing songs promoting alcohol during his Dil-Luminati tour in Hyderabad.
Ahead of his November 15 show at the GMR Arena, organizers received a government notice prohibiting the singer from singing tracks that glorify alcohol, drugs, and violence. In response, Dosanjh modified his lyrics but still delivered an outstanding performance for the audience despite the restrictions.
As the ‘Lover’ hitmaker continued his tour in Ahmedabad, he took the opportunity to challenge the Indian government to implement a nationwide ban on liquor. He also targeted Bollywood stars for appearing in liquor ads, stating that unlike them, he doesn’t endorse alcohol.
Sharing his thoughts in a video on Instagram, Dosanjh explained that while Gujarat is a dry state, he would refrain from performing alcohol-related songs, stating, “It’s easy for me to tweak the lyrics. I don’t drink alcohol.” He also called out a recent TV anchor who criticized him for promoting alcohol, emphasizing that Bollywood has many alcohol-related songs, but he only has a few.
Dosanjh further challenged the government, saying, “If every state bans alcohol, I’ll stop singing songs about it for life.” He urged a complete ban on alcohol sales, questioning why liquor shops were the only businesses allowed to remain open during the pandemic.
As his Dil-Luminati tour continues, Dosanjh will perform in Lucknow, Pune, Kolkata, and other cities, before wrapping up the tour in Guwahati on December 29.
