ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s textile exports saw a notable 10.44% increase in the first four months of the 2024-25 financial year, compared to the same period last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Textile exports totaled $6.146 billion between July and October 2024, up from $5.565 billion during the same months in 2023.
Key contributors to this growth included cotton cloth exports, which rose by 5.25% to $679.4 million from $645.5 million, and knitwear, which surged 18.69% to $1.76 billion from $1.48 billion. Other textiles showing growth included bed wear, up 13.17% to $1.07 billion, towels, which grew 5.47% to $356.5 million, and tents, canvas, and tarpaulin, which increased by 7.02% to $40.4 million.
Exports of ready-made garments rose 25.40% to $1.36 billion, while art, silk, and synthetic textiles grew by 12.26% to $131.6 million. Other made-up textile articles, excluding towels and bed wear, increased by 12.46% to $263.8 million, and other textile materials saw a 7.48% rise to $252.6 million.
However, cotton yarn exports faced a significant decline, dropping 45.49% from $407.6 million to $221.8 million, and raw cotton exports fell by 100%, from $23.3 million to zero.
On a year-on-year basis, textile exports in October 2024 saw a 13.11% increase, totaling $1.63 billion, compared to $1.44 billion in October 2023. However, on a month-on-month basis, exports decreased slightly by 1.30% from $1.60 billion in September 2024.
