“I Often Cry in the Bathroom, But…”: Shah Rukh Khan Opens Up on Coping with Failures

Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan Reveals His Journey of Self-Criticism and Overcoming Failures

Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan has admitted to being highly self-critical of his career, sharing how he navigates feelings of failure and moves forward.

When asked about times he’s felt critical of his career, Khan said, “I am, and it hurts so much that I often end up crying in the bathroom, but I don’t show it to anyone.” He explained, “You can’t wallow in self-pity forever. You have to believe that the world isn’t against you or that it didn’t go wrong because of you, and that the world isn’t conspiring to destroy your work.”

Khan emphasized the importance of acknowledging one’s own mistakes and taking responsibility. “You must understand that it might be something I did wrong, or perhaps the business or the strategy and marketing went wrong,” he added. “Then, you need to recalibrate and move forward. Life does what it does; you can’t start blaming it for failures.”

He likened this process to imagining himself as a small ant, carried away by the wind. “The wind isn’t working against you; it’s just doing what it does,” he said. “Life moves on. You have to believe that you made mistakes, accept it, and then keep going.”

Khan returned to the big screen last year with three consecutive hits—‘Pathaan’, ‘Jawan’, and ‘Dunki’. He is now gearing up for his next project, Sujoy Ghosh’s action-thriller ‘King’, which will also feature his daughter Suhana and actor Abhishek Bachchan.
