‘Stree 2’ Director Shares Major Update on the Franchise Expansion

At an event in Goa, the director of Stree 2, Amar Kaushik, shared exciting insights into the future of the franchise following the success of the first two films.

Stree 2 has become Bollywood’s highest-grossing film of the year, and the second highest-grossing film of 2024 in India. It made history by being the first Hindi film to surpass the INR 600 crore mark, marking a significant achievement at the Indian box office.

Kaushik revealed that there are plans for more installments, with stories already in mind, though the timeline for shooting is still uncertain. He confirmed that future films will be shot in Madhya Pradesh, possibly exploring more parts of the state.

Reflecting on the decision to move the shooting of the first Stree film from Goa to Madhya Pradesh, Kaushik explained that he wanted to avoid typical horror tropes. Initially, the film was to be shot in Goa, but he later chose Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh, feeling the location offered a unique atmosphere, with every street and alley providing fresh inspiration. He hinted that future installments, like Stree 3 or Stree 4, would also be filmed in this area.

The latest film in the Stree franchise, a sequel to the 2018 hit, sees Shraddha Kapoor reprise her iconic role, alongside Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. Special appearances by Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, and Tamannaah Bhatia also added to the star-studded cast.

Stree 2 was released on August 15, Indian Independence Day, where it went head-to-head at the box office with Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa.
