For those unaware, Bollywood star Govinda once disclosed in an old interview that he had broken off his engagement with Sunita, now his wife, as he wished to marry fellow actor Neelam Kothari.
“I asked Sunita to leave me. I ended our engagement. If Sunita hadn’t called me after five days and convinced me to reconcile, I would probably have married Neelam. I wanted to marry her,” Govinda admitted.
Responding to his statement, Neelam Kothari, star of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, clarified in a recent interview that there was no romantic relationship between her and Govinda.
She explained, “Link-ups were just part of the game back then. There was no one to clarify things, so the press would print whatever they wanted.”
“In those days, we were almost scared of the media. The power of the pen was significant, and if you worked in more than 2-3 films with someone, it was just assumed you were dating,” Kothari elaborated.

Neelam Kothari, who appeared in over 10 films with Govinda during the 1980s, first married Rishi Sethia, a UK-based businessman’s son, in 2000, but the marriage ended in divorce. She later married actor Samir Soni in 2011, and the couple adopted a daughter in 2013.
Meanwhile, Govinda married Sunita Munjal in 1987, though they kept their marriage secret for four years. The couple shares two children, daughter Tina and son Yashvardhan.
