Samantha Prabhu Reflects on Being Labeled ‘Used, Second-Hand’ After Divorce from Naga Chaitanya

Samantha Prabhu, who recently had her wedding dress redesigned for an awards night, shared the reasons behind repurposing the gown, clarifying that it was not intended as an act of revenge.

In a recent interview, the ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ actress opened up about the stigma surrounding separation and divorce, reflecting on her personal experience. “When a woman goes through a divorce, there’s so much shame and stigma attached,” she said. “I get comments like ‘second-hand, used, wasted life.’ It’s like you’re pushed into a corner where you’re made to feel like a failure, guilty, and ashamed that you were once married, and now you’re not.”

She acknowledged the emotional toll that divorce can take, especially for women and families.

Samantha, who was in a seven-year relationship with Naga Chaitanya before they married for four years, further explained her decision to repurpose her wedding gown.

“At first, it hurt,” she admitted. “But then I chose to flip the narrative.”

“I’ll own it. I’m separated, I’m divorced. Things haven’t been a fairytale, but that doesn’t mean I should sit in a corner and cry. I still have the courage to live my life,” she stated, emphasizing that her decision to repurpose the gown wasn’t about revenge, despite how it might have seemed. “It was just about saying, ‘Yes, this happened,’ but it doesn’t define the rest of my life.”
