Sunidhi revives Nazia’s ‘Boom Boom’ with a fresh twist

How can you tell when a singer is a legend? When, years after their death, their timeless hits continue to be embraced by new generations. The late Nazia Hassan, the pop queen of her time, left behind the iconic hit “Boom Boom,” which has now been reimagined by Indian singer Sunidhi Chauhan in a fresh version for an Indian car commercial.

In the ad, just 18 seconds in, Sunidhi’s powerful vocals take over as she steps into the car. While the melody and lyrics remain the same, Sunidhi brings a stronger, more intense energy to the song, contrasting Nazia’s original softer, sweeter vocal style.

Fans on social media had nothing but praise for Sunidhi’s rendition, with many calling for a full version of the track. “Sunidhi’s voice!” exclaimed one fan, adding a fire emoji, while another wrote, “Amazing choice of a ’90s hot pop song,” with a heart emoji. Many others echoed the sentiment, expressing their desire for the full version to be released.

While other artists have attempted to cover Nazia’s “Boom Boom,” few have received the same positive reaction as Sunidhi. Pakistani actress and singer Mehwish Hayat learned this the hard way when she tried to honor the late legend at a disco-themed party in Dubai earlier this year. Clad in a black dress, Mehwish performed amid flashing lights, but her version of the song was met with harsh criticism. Fans quickly took to social media to voice their disapproval, with some even calling for a “2-minute silence” after watching the clip.

Despite the mixed reactions to other renditions, Nazia’s original “Boom Boom” remains an unforgettable classic that no cover version is likely to surpass.
