Karachi professor terminated over harassment allegations against female colleague

The Federal Ombudsman announced the dismissal of a professor from Karachi’s Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science, and Technology (FUUAST) on harassment charges against a female colleague, ARY News reported.

Professor Hafiz Ishaq was found guilty of harassment during proceedings conducted by the Federal Ombudsman for Anti-Harassment. A complaint filed by a female professor led to his termination and a fine of Rs1 million, of which Rs800,000 is to be paid to the victim, according to the Ombudsman’s spokesperson.

In a related case, a local court sentenced former Karachi University assistant professor Dr. Farhan Kamrani to 10 years in prison for online harassment of a female colleague. The court also imposed a fine of Rs50,000.

According to the complaint lodged with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Dr. Kamrani created a fake social media profile impersonating the victim, doctoring her photos and posting inappropriate content. The FIA’s Cyber Crime Cell arrested Kamrani on harassment charges, leading to his conviction.
