Navjot Kaur, wife of prominent Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, has been served with a legal notice worth over $100 million (approximately Rs 850 crore) from Chhattisgarh Civil Society (CCS).
The notice challenges claims made by Navjot Singh Sidhu regarding his wife’s recovery from Stage 4 cancer, which he attributed to “traditional” remedies.
On November 21, Sidhu announced that his wife had overcome Stage 4 cancer despite doctors giving her only 40 days to live. He credited her recovery to a specialized diet and lifestyle changes, controversially describing cancer as “inflammation” caused by certain foods, including milk, wheat, refined flour (maida), and sugar.
The claims sparked backlash from medical experts and CCS. Dr. Kuldeep Solanki, Convener of CCS, warned that promoting unverified cancer treatments could mislead patients, potentially causing them to abandon life-saving medical treatments.
In their legal notice, CCS sought an explanation for Sidhu’s statements and warned against advocating treatments not supported by scientific evidence.
In response to the criticism, Sidhu released a video on Monday clarifying that the dietary practices followed by his wife were developed with input from medical professionals and were meant to complement, not replace, conventional cancer treatments.
