“Bilawal seeks to forge consensus on constitutional reforms package”

KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) celebrated the 36th birthday of its chairman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, on Saturday with events held in Karachi and other cities across the province.

At a gathering hosted at the Arts Council in Karachi, PPP-Sindh President Nisar Khuhro highlighted Mr. Bhutto-Zardari’s significant role in building consensus among political parties on a proposed constitutional amendment package.

Khuhro stated that the PPP leadership aims to establish a federal constitutional court and a truth and reconciliation commission, as agreed upon in the Charter of Democracy by major political parties.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to continue efforts towards consensus on constitutional amendments, stressing that these efforts would persist until an agreement is reached.

Khuhro and other party leaders also extended their congratulations to Mr. Bhutto-Zardari on his 36th birthday.

The PPP-Sindh chief emphasized the party’s dedication to implementing the remaining points of the Charter of Democracy, a mission initiated by the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He further explained that the amendments would help address the backlog of cases pending in the Supreme Court by establishing a constitutional court.

Khuhro also commented on Sindh’s share of water under the Water Accord, asserting the party’s clear stance on the issue. He noted that the Sindh Assembly had taken up the matter of water shortages and passed a resolution, under the direction of Mr. Bhutto-Zardari, opposing the removal of the Mohenjo Daro image from currency notes.

PPP-Sindh General Secretary Waqar Mehdi praised Mr. Bhutto-Zardari’s political acumen, stating that leadership should come from the people and expressing confidence that the PPP would win the next general election, with Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari as the next prime minister.

PPP-Karachi President Saeed Ghani added that no one understood the country’s challenges better than Mr. Bhutto-Zardari.

After the speeches, party leaders celebrated Mr. Bhutto-Zardari’s birthday with a cake-cutting ceremony. Separately, Mr. Bhutto-Zardari also marked the occasion by cutting a cake at Bilawal House, attended by his sister Aseefa, their aunt Faryal Talpur, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, former CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah, provincial ministers, PPP lawmakers, and other prominent figures.
