As wedding season approaches in Pakistan and South Asia, veteran actress Bushra Ansari has strongly criticized the dowry culture, sharing her personal experience with her ‘shameless‘ former son-in-law.
In a recent video on her YouTube channel titled Jahaiz Aur Humari Beetiyaan (Dowry and Our Daughters), Bushra Ansari addressed the deeply ingrained issue of dowry, calling for stricter laws to combat the practice.
She questioned, “When parents marry off their daughters, they are already giving their child to the family, so why should they also give dowry and material wealth?”
The Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum actress then shared her own experience, revealing that despite providing her daughters with a good education and a comfortable lifestyle, she was still pressured to give them dowries.
“Besides the usual clothes and shoes, I gave them things like cutlery, furniture, and even an apartment,” she said. “But these shameless individuals feel nothing.” She added, “There is much more I could mention, but I won’t.”
She went on, “These people keep taking and taking, and after all that’s given to them, they forget to show gratitude. They believe it’s their right. Even after everything parents do for their daughters and consider their sons-in-law as their own sons, they remain silent, not always out of fear, but out of love for their children. I too did it out of love.”
Bushra concluded, “But it truly pains and frustrates me when the man sees it as his entitlement and doesn’t appreciate what he received.”
It’s important to note that Bushra Ansari has two daughters, Meera and Nariman, from her 36-year marriage to Iqbal Ansari.
On the acting front, Bushra was last seen in the popular drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, starring Fahad Mustafa and Hania Aamir.
