PM requests Lebanon’s assistance for Pakistanis in Syria

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reached out to Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, requesting urgent assistance in evacuating Pakistani nationals stranded in Syria, ARY News reported.

PM Shehbaz personally contacted PM Mikati, seeking Lebanon’s support in ensuring the safe return of Pakistanis via Beirut. In response, PM Mikati assured full cooperation and pledged to extend all possible assistance.

The Prime Minister also directed Pakistan’s ambassadors in Syria and Lebanon to provide comprehensive support to the stranded Pakistanis and facilitate their safe repatriation.

Condemning Israel’s military aggression against Lebanon, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon and urged similar action for Palestine.

Acknowledging the close ties between Pakistan and Lebanon, PM Shehbaz expressed solidarity with the Lebanese people during these testing times.

Earlier, on December 8, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch urged Pakistanis in Syria to exercise caution amidst the evolving regional situation.

She assured that Pakistan is monitoring developments closely and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Syria’s unity and sovereignty. According to the spokesperson, Pakistan’s embassy in Syria remains operational, assisting citizens, including stranded pilgrims, as Damascus International Airport is currently closed.

Once the airport resumes operations, the embassy will ensure the safe return of all Pakistani nationals.
