Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed further reductions in electricity prices for the public and called for expedited implementation of future power generation projects.
During a review meeting on power generation and transmission, the prime minister instructed the immediate shutdown of outdated power plants with high fuel consumption and low efficiency. He emphasized prioritizing low-cost energy projects and utilizing local resources in the future.
“Globally, electricity is being generated using environmentally friendly and cost-effective solar energy,” PM Shehbaz noted, adding that hydropower would offer consumers both sustainable and affordable electricity. He highlighted Pakistan’s vast potential for solar energy and stressed the need to transition the current power capacity toward solar solutions.
Meeting with Nawaz Sharif
Separately, PM Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif recently resolved to take strict action against those undermining national solidarity.
In a meeting held at Jati Umra, the two leaders discussed national security, political affairs, and strategies to ensure the country’s development. They reviewed the events of November 26 and deliberated on the possibility of a civil disobedience call. Both leaders agreed to consult government allies to build consensus on national matters.
Nawaz Sharif congratulated the prime minister on economic improvements, while PM Shehbaz briefed him on progress in attracting foreign investments and his recent visit to Saudi Arabia. They also paid tribute to the soldiers and martyrs who sacrificed their lives in operations against militants.
The meeting concluded with prayers at the graves of their parents in Jati Umra.
