Highlights of the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024 Unveiled

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has revealed the key details of the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024 in the National Assembly, aiming to transform Pakistan into a dynamic digital society and a robust digital economy, ARY News reported.

The bill focuses on promoting sustainable development, improving public service delivery, and advancing digital governance with transparency and efficiency.

Under the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024, key institutions like the National Digital Commission (NDC) and the Pakistan Digital Authority will be established to oversee and implement the bill’s objectives.

The bill is based on the National Digital Master Plan, which aims to enhance governance across federal, provincial, and local levels, foster economic growth, and develop digital public infrastructure, including a secure data exchange layer. The bill also ensures innovation, improved public services, and citizen privacy protection.

Earlier, State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced the formation of the National Digital Commission (NDC) to drive digital transformation across the country.

Speaking at the National Broadband Forum in Islamabad, she revealed that the NDC will be led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and include provincial chief ministers and representatives from regulatory bodies such as NADRA and PTA.

She further announced plans to establish the Pakistan Digital Authority, tasked with implementing a unified framework and master plan for digitalization, prioritizing three key areas: economy, governance, and society.

The minister also highlighted upcoming 5G and 4G spectrum auctions scheduled for April next year, which aim to significantly improve internet services and address connectivity issues faced by freelancers and IT professionals.

Shaza Fatima emphasized that investments in telecom infrastructure and improved internet speed will unlock Pakistan’s potential in the digital age, ensuring the country keeps pace with the evolving technological landscape.
