PTI founder may urge suspension of remittances if demands go unmet: Aleema Khan

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has reportedly threatened to urge a halt to remittances if his demands are not fulfilled, as revealed by his sister, Aleema Khan, ARY News reported.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Aleema Khan shared that Imran Khan reiterated his demands three times: the formation of a judicial commission comprising three Supreme Court judges and the release of innocent prisoners. She quoted him as saying that if these demands remain unmet, he would call for stopping remittances to Pakistan.

Aleema claimed that millions of Pakistanis have fallen below the poverty line since the PTI government’s ousting, with citizens facing severe economic hardships. She alleged that while poor laborers work tirelessly abroad to send remittances home, the elites transfer their wealth overseas, creating resentment among overseas Pakistanis who are now willing to stop sending remittances.

She further alleged that Imran Khan believes in the existence of a “London Plan” designed to systematically weaken PTI, strip the party of its election symbol, and crush it through a phased agenda.

This is not the first time Aleema Khan has conveyed a message from the incarcerated PTI founder. On December 6, she warned the government that Imran Khan could launch a civil disobedience movement if his demands were ignored.

At the time, she shared his two key demands: the release of political prisoners and the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9, 2023, and the November 26 crackdown on PTI protesters.

Aleema also revealed that Imran Khan had hinted at having a “final card” left to play but refrained from disclosing further details. Addressing rumors about his health, she dismissed them as baseless, stating that Imran Khan is in good health, continues to exercise regularly, and even laughed off the false reports about his condition.
