The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has confirmed that no cases have been registered against former president Dr. Arif Alvi.
A two-member constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC), led by Justice K.K. Agha, reviewed a petition seeking information on cases involving Dr. Alvi. The Assistant Attorney General submitted a report affirming the absence of any cases against the former president in the FIA.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Advocate General requested additional time to gather details of cases within the province. The court questioned the delays in providing this information, with Justice Adnan ul Kareem Memon pressing for accountability. “If the IG Sindh isn’t responsible, then who is? Are FIRs being concealed?” he asked.
The court extended the stay order on Dr. Alvi’s arrest and instructed the authorities to present comprehensive details by January 13. It further prohibited his arrest in any new case without judicial approval.
Last week, the SHC issued a stay on the former president’s arrest and mandated that all cases against him, including any secret ones, be disclosed to the court.
Imran Khan Summons PTI Negotiation Committee to Adiala Jail
Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has called a meeting with his seven-member negotiation committee at Adiala Jail. Key members include Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Asad Qaiser, Hamid Khan, Advocate Salman Akram Raja, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, and Hamid Raza Khan.
PTI’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, has submitted a formal request to jail authorities for the meeting, which is expected to take place later today. Imran Khan’s family members are also scheduled to visit him.
The meeting comes amidst rising political tensions, with Khan issuing an ultimatum to the government. He has demanded the fulfillment of two major demands by Sunday, warning of a potential civil disobedience movement if unmet.
Following a recent jail visit, Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, shared that he continues to call for judicial inquiries into the events of May 9 and November 26, along with the release of detained PTI workers.
