KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is ramping up its efforts to bring two grounded aircraft back into operation ahead of its European flights, according to ARY News sources.
The aircraft, a Boeing 777 and an Airbus A320, are being prepared to join the active fleet for European routes.
PIA sources revealed that the Boeing 777, designated for European routes and Hajj operations, had been grounded for over a year. However, its two engines are expected to arrive in Pakistan today, and the aircraft’s first operational flight to Paris is scheduled for January 10.
With these two aircraft reactivated, PIA’s active fleet will increase to 18 planes, expanding its operational capacity and service offerings.
Earlier, PIA grounded nine aircraft due to a “spares shortage.”
Last year, the airline added two more planes to its fleet.
PIA spokesman Abdullah Hafeez Khan commented, “Despite the country’s challenging economic conditions, the government continues to support PIA’s progress, as evidenced by the growing number of aircraft in our operational fleet.” He also noted that a new Airbus A320, which recently completed all required procedures, began its commercial operations with flight PK-309 from Islamabad to Karachi.
