Kia to Provide Complimentary NACS Charging Adapters to Select EV Customers

Kia is set to provide a range of charging adapters to its electric vehicle (EV) customers beginning in 2025. Owners of the Kia EV6 and EV9 SUVs who purchased their vehicles after September 4, 2024, will receive a complimentary NACS-to-CCS adapter early next year. Additionally, Kia will offer adapters that will enable future NACS-equipped Kia models to charge on CCS chargers and J1772 Level 2 AC chargers.

As the automotive industry shifts from the Combined Charging System (CCS) port—currently used by most electric vehicles—to the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, which was developed by Tesla, many automakers plan to adopt the NACS port for vehicles assembled in 2025. However, existing EV owners will still be using CCS ports. In response, several automakers are introducing adapters to help these owners access NACS chargers, with Kia recently announcing its own free adapter for select customers.

To qualify for the free adapter, customers must have purchased a new Kia EV9 or EV6 after September 4, 2024. This offer includes the 2024 model EV6 and both the 2024 and 2025 model EV9s. The adapters will be shipped to customers in early 2025, coinciding with Kia’s access to NACS-equipped DC fast chargers starting January 15, 2025.

For owners of the Kia EV9, EV6, and Niro EV who bought their vehicles prior to September 4, they will have the option to purchase the adapter from a Kia dealership at a later date.

Kia will offer three different types of NACS adapters: a NACS-to-CCS adapter allowing current Kia EVs to utilize upcoming NACS-style DC fast chargers and existing Tesla Superchargers; a CCS-to-NACS adapter enabling future Kia EVs with NACS ports to charge on current CCS-equipped fast chargers; and a J1772-to-NACS adapter allowing NACS-equipped Kia EV owners to charge at existing Level 2 AC chargers.

Starting in early 2025, Kia EV owners will also be able to pay for charging via the Kia Access app, following a vehicle software upgrade. This update will enable owners to search for and navigate to charging stations using the infotainment system or app, as well as view information about charging availability, status, and pricing.
