Sucker Punch Productions has announced the development of “Ghost of Yotei,” the sequel to their 2020 action-adventure game, “Ghost of Tsushima.” Set to be released in 2025, the new installment features a new protagonist named Atsu and introduces an entirely new storyline. The game takes place in 1603 in the region surrounding Mount Yotei in Ezo (now known as Hokkaido), over 300 years after the events of the original game.
In a PlayStation blog post, Sucker Punch Productions communications manager Andrew Goldfarb highlighted the developer’s aim to innovate while preserving the core elements that contributed to the original’s success. “We wanted to continue to innovate… we looked beyond Jin Sakai’s story and the island of Tsushima, and shifted our focus to the concept of the ‘Ghost,’” Goldfarb explained regarding the series’ new direction.
The game’s environment will differ significantly from the structured samurai clans of Tsushima, with players exploring a rugged and perilous landscape. Goldfarb added, “Atsu’s journey takes place in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, featuring expansive grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected threats.”
This announcement was made during PlayStation’s State of Play presentation, which also showcased other upcoming releases, including “Lego Horizon Adventures” (Nov. 14) and a Digital Deluxe edition movie pack for “Sonic X Shadow Generations” (Dec. 12), featuring Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow. The event followed the unveiling of the PS5 Pro, set to launch in November.
