Pakistan Introduces First Direct Cargo Service to Bangladesh, Boosting Trade Relations

In a major milestone for regional trade, Pakistan has launched its first-ever direct cargo service between Karachi Port and Chittagong Port in Bangladesh. This historic development establishes a direct maritime route, creating new avenues for economic collaboration and trade between the two nations.

The cargo vessel, with a capacity of 2,300 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), carried a diverse range of goods, highlighting the growing need for more efficient trade links between Pakistan and Bangladesh. This direct service represents a significant step in boosting bilateral trade, fostering stronger economic ties, and enhancing regional connectivity.

Syed Ahmed Maroof, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, hailed the achievement, describing it as a key advancement in the economic relationship between the two countries. He emphasized that direct shipping services would not only streamline trade but also reduce costs and delivery times, making business transactions more efficient. Maroof also suggested that regular shipping routes would facilitate continuous trade flows and promote long-lasting business partnerships.

Beyond economic gains, Maroof pointed out that the new shipping links could also deepen social and cultural connections, opening up fresh opportunities for cross-sector collaboration.

This inaugural direct shipment from Karachi to Chittagong is more than just an economic victory; it sets the stage for a more integrated, mutually beneficial partnership between Pakistan and Bangladesh. As trade routes expand, this initiative could further strengthen the ties between the two countries and enhance their collective influence in the region.
