Rawalpindi Police Tighten Security Measures at Churches Ahead of New Year

RAWALPINDI: Following the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani, the Rawalpindi District Police on Sunday enhanced security at churches across the district.

According to a police spokesperson, Divisional Superintendents of Police (SPs), SDPOs, and SHOs inspected church security in their respective areas and briefed the deployed personnel.

Strict measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of the Christian community during church services. The CPO also directed effective patrolling in various areas, with plainclothes officers and well-equipped personnel assigned to duties near churches and public spaces.

Additionally, the police decided to crack down on beggars and instructed hotels to maintain proper visitor check-in and check-out records, the spokesperson added.

Section 144 Imposed in Karachi for New Year’s Eve

Meanwhile, Karachi’s city administration has enforced Section 144 for two days to ensure a peaceful New Year’s Eve celebration.

On the recommendation of DIG South Zone Karachi, Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi issued a notification banning the carrying, displaying, and brandishing of weapons, along with aerial firing and firecracker usage.

Section 144 will remain in effect on December 31 (Tuesday) and January 1 (Wednesday), with strict action warned against violators, as per the notification.
