Maria Wasti speaks out on the controversial topic of ‘my body, my choice.’

Veteran Pakistani actor Maria Wasti has voiced her support for the slogan “My Body, My Choice,” stressing that it has been unfairly politicized and misrepresented in society.

In a recent podcast, Wasti discussed various issues, including women’s and children’s rights, as well as challenges faced by marginalized communities in Pakistan. She pointed out that the slogan, which advocates for autonomy and freedom of choice, has been wrongly reduced to a focus solely on the body.

Wasti clarified that the true essence of the slogan is about personal autonomy, self-determination, and the right to make decisions—not just about the body itself.

She also highlighted that despite women making up 55% of Pakistan’s population, they are still fighting for basic rights, as though they were a minority. According to Wasti, the slogan is about empowering individuals to take control of their lives and choices, a concept that should not be controversial.
