Ring Road project reaches significant milestone.

RAWALPINDI: The installation of girders on the longest Soan Bridge under the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project officially began on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in this major infrastructure project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Rawalpindi.

In her remarks during the inauguration, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director-General Kinza Murtaza described this development as a major achievement in the construction of the multi-lane highway, designed to ease traffic flow and improve regional connectivity.

The Soan Bridge girder, which spans the Soan River, is a critical component of the overall project. “The completion of this girder is an important step forward for the Rawalpindi Ring Road,” DG Murtaza stated, adding, “Once completed, the Ring Road will reduce traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and provide a safer, more efficient route for travelers throughout the region.”

She urged officials to ensure the timely and efficient completion of the project, while also emphasizing that there will be no compromise on the quality and standards of the work. “We are committed to building the flyovers to the highest standards for the safety and convenience of the public,” she added.

The RRR project, a flagship initiative by RDA, is set to enhance the city’s transportation network by linking key roads, highways, and industrial areas. It will offer an alternative route to the congested city center, reducing travel time and improving traffic flow.

RDA is working closely with partners to ensure the project proceeds smoothly, with strict adherence to safety protocols during construction.

With the Soan Bridge girder installation underway, the project remains on track for completion in the coming months, promising significant improvements to Rawalpindi’s infrastructure and contributing to regional economic development.

Earlier this month, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) of the federal government approved the revised PC-1 of the project, which will be presented at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting.

The RRR project is scheduled for completion by June 2025, although construction progress has been slow. Spanning 38.3 kilometers, the Ring Road will connect Banth on the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) to the Thallian Motorway Interchange.

According to an RDA official, 37% of the construction work has been completed, with the pace expected to accelerate once the revised PC-1 is approved.
