Former England fast bowler Darren Gough has been named the head coach of Lahore Qalandars for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season, the franchise confirmed on Wednesday in Lahore.
The 54-year-old Gough returns to the Qalandars after guiding the team to the finals of the previous year’s Global Super League. His appointment adds an international cricket expert to the PSL, strengthening the franchise’s coaching team.
Gough, a veteran of Yorkshire cricket, holds the record for most One Day International wickets for England and played from 1994 to 2006. His leadership experience includes serving as England’s bowling consultant in 2020 and as the Managing Director of Cricket for Yorkshire.
“The PSL is a fantastic platform with immense talent in the Qalandars squad,” Gough said after his appointment. “This season, we aim to deliver exciting and competitive cricket with the full support of our fans.”
Team Director Sameen Rana highlighted Gough’s prior success with the franchise as a key reason for the appointment. “His contributions during the Global Super League showed his deep understanding of the team’s culture,” Rana explained.
With the timing of this announcement, Gough will have ample opportunity to prepare the team for the 2025 PSL, where Lahore Qalandars will face off against five other top franchises in Pakistan’s premier cricket competition.
