Sri Lanka secures victory in their first T20 World Cup warmup match against Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka secured a comfortable victory over Bangladesh in their first warmup match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, held today (28th September) at the ICC Academy Grounds in Dubai.

After being sent in to bat, Sri Lanka posted a total of 143/7 in their 20 overs. Middle-order batter Hasini Perera top-scored with 43 runs, while Nilakshi Silva and Harshitha Samarawickrama contributed 30 and 29 runs respectively.

Bangladesh’s Shorna Akter impressed with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 19 runs.

Sri Lanka’s bowling unit delivered a strong collective performance, restricting Bangladesh to 110/9. Left-arm spinner Sugandika Kumari starred with the ball, claiming a hat-trick in her 2-over spell, finishing with figures of 3/8.

Off-spinner Inoshi Priyadarshani also shone, taking 2 wickets for just 11 runs. Sri Lanka will face Scotland in their next warmup game on 30th September.
