PTI founder declares February 8 as Black Day to be observed nationwide

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has declared February 8 as Black Day to be observed nationwide.

Sources reveal that PTI’s Members of National Assembly (MNAs) and Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) have been instructed to stage protests in their local areas to oppose the ‘rigged’ elections on February 8, 2024.

Imran Khan has urged party leaders to prepare for the protests and has also directed them to avoid making statements against JUI-F leader Fazlur Rehman. Additionally, he has instructed that opposition leaders, including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, be consulted regarding the planned demonstrations.

The announcement coincides with PTI’s plans to initiate a nationwide protest campaign against the government.

It is important to note that Pakistan held general elections on February 8, 2024, in which independent candidates supported by PTI secured the majority of seats. However, PML-N and PPP formed an alliance to exclude PTI from power.

The opposition parties have accused the government of election rigging, although the caretaker administration, which oversaw the elections, has denied these allegations.

Meanwhile, PTI is currently in talks with the federal government amid ongoing uncertainty. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar confirmed that the party will present its written demands during the third round of talks with the government, scheduled for tomorrow, January 16.

Barrister Gohar stated that if the government engages in the discussions with sincerity and goodwill, a resolution to the issues could be reached.
