ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers Call for Salary Hike Amid Inflation
Members of the National Assembly, both from the government and opposition, have called for an increase in their salaries, citing the growing burden of inflation.
According to sources, lawmakers expressed concerns over their inability to meet expenses with their current pay. They argued that their salaries have not been adjusted to match the rising cost of living, making it increasingly difficult to manage their financial obligations.
The issue is expected to be presented by the Speaker of the National Assembly to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister for consideration. Lawmakers are seeking parity in pay with members of the Punjab and Balochistan assemblies.
In addition to the demand for a pay raise, the Speaker has initiated an audit of salaries for lawmakers in Punjab and Balochistan. Details of the National Assembly’s budget have also been requested as part of a broader effort to evaluate and reform the compensation structure for legislators.
