Kurram convoy attack death toll for security personnel increases to two.

Kurram Convoy Attack Claims Two Security Personnel Lives

Another security personnel has succumbed to injuries sustained in Thursday’s deadly attack on an aid convoy in Kurram, raising the death toll to two, officials confirmed on Friday.

Police reported that the attack on the convoy, which was transporting essential supplies to the crisis-affected district, also resulted in the deaths of three drivers. Five other drivers are still missing, and five security personnel were injured.

Trader representatives stated that the trucks were looted and set on fire after the attack.

It was reported that one security personnel had been martyred in the attack yesterday, and in retaliation, security forces killed six assailants.

Kurram’s Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shaukat Ali, mentioned that the attack damaged three vehicles in the convoy.

In the first phase of its journey, 35 trucks carrying medicines, vegetables, fruits, and other essential supplies had been dispatched. A significant security presence, including police, Frontier Corps (FC), and other forces, had been deployed to safeguard the convoy.

Following the terrorist attack, the convoy was halted and sent back for safety. This incident represents a major setback to the peace agreement that had enabled aid to reach the region, which had been plagued by tribal violence, claiming over 130 lives and leading to route closures for more than 100 days.

In the past two weeks, only two aid consignments have been sent to Kurram, with the latest one arriving on January 14. Residents have expressed dissatisfaction, saying the delivered goods were “insufficient,” while the helicopter service for patient transfers has been suspended for the past 10 days.

Despite the peace agreement reached between warring tribes, facilitated by the Grand Jirga, the Kurram Peace Committee, and local peace groups, the situation in the district remains unstable.
