Basit Ali criticizes Pakistan’s ‘overconfidence’ following Multan Test defeat

Former cricketer Basit Ali has criticized the ‘overconfident’ Pakistan team following their loss to West Indies in the second PAK v WI Test in Multan on Monday.

Pakistan lost the match by 120 runs after being bowled out for 133 while chasing a target of 254.

The West Indies made a remarkable comeback, recovering from a challenging 38 for seven in their first innings, with their last three wickets contributing crucial runs, adding 125 on the opening day of the match.

Basit Ali pointed out that Pakistan’s bowling attack was the main factor behind the defeat. In an interview with ARY News, he highlighted that Pakistan’s failure to dismiss the West Indies tailenders in the first innings was a turning point in the game.

“While the batters struggled, I believe we lost the game due to the bowlers. We allowed them to score 163 after having them at 37 for seven. Their highest run-scorers were the number 9, 10, and 11 batsmen, who were bowlers,” he explained.

Basit also noted that Pakistan tends to become overconfident after winning a match. “We may have won against England, but we often get too confident after a win. The players were given a two-day holiday to rest,” he added.

It’s worth noting that West Indies’ victory marked their first Test win in Pakistan since 1990. Chasing 254 in the second innings, Pakistan’s batting struggled on a turning pitch, getting all out for 133 during the first session of Day 3.
